Kitchen gadget lover

Both my me and my mum are a little bit addicted to kitchen gadgets, between us I am sure we must have tested everything going from food processors to milk frothers. Some have really cut the mustard, others  have been middle of the road and then of course we have those that have been tried and failed and others that are buried away in the cupboard that are yet to see the light of day.

Having two little toast monsters there is rarely a day that passes that the toaster doesn't earn its worth,         popping out slice after slice and still even though both boys are fully weaned the hand blender usually gets a daily workout. I have the slow cooker at the ready as I have spotted some great little receipes and it's ideal for days when I am at work.

There are however a few kitchen gadgets that I really couldn't live without, the kettle being one. Yes i had that horrible moment this week where the kettle wouldn't switch on. Desperate for a brew-and ready to prepare the tiny man's feed - i did the frantic trying other sockets only to see light flick on and off, and I realised just how much I use it. I was saved from my brew nightmare by a quick thinking friend who had a spare on standby. Note to self for the future - this is a genius idea, as I dash off to buy two new kettles.

Spring Clean

Although the weather may say otherwise it is officially Spring time, so in a quest to de-clutter and create a little more space i am going to embark on a super 'Spring Clean'. In addition to cleaning the house from top to bottom there are a few jobs that need doing around the house and it's time for the hall and stairs to get a new lick of paint.

Appointments have been made for the garden to receive its first treatment of the new year and the shed will also be cleared ready for a new barbecue to replace last years that became victim to the gales.

Another job on the list is sorting through mine and the boys bulging wardrobes, and by using clothes for cash the old outgrown winter pieces and maternity clothes can help fund some summer clothing for our little holiday in June.

Today I will start with the mammoth task of clearing out underneath the stairs which has become the haven for ball pools, books, kitchen gadgets and even left over Christmas wrapping paper....wish me luck!

Fun and Housework

Being a working mummy and having two active little men it can be difficult to find enough hours in the day to squeeze in the housework as well as our normal daily activities. Little man is now at an age where he is into everything and is eager to see how everything works. He is always keen to help mummy out with certain jobs and even Tiny will happily sit and watch what is going on. Although the boys are still very young i like to try and include them in jobs where i can make up fun games and silly songs as we go. There are so many great children pretend play toys available too that children can really get involved, it also starts to develop an awareness about jobs around the home and create social awareness.

As a big brother Little man loves to help out with looking after his younger brother, always running to bring nappies, clothes and toys and taking bottles for sterilising. I have also tried to encourage the concept of tidying away his toys before moving to the next activity and at the end of the day. We do this with one of our very own silly songs, which adds a fun element to the task. Little man will now shout ‘tidy up’ which is our cue to burst into song.

Both the boys seem fascinated with the washing machine; whilst Tiny will happily watch the washing Little man likes to fill and empty. One of the games that we play is colour and clothing recognition where he will pick out certain colours and clothing items, whilst Tiny just loves to empty the tumble dryer too.

When it comes to sweeping the floors Little man is a whizz with his own toy brush and shovel, running around the living room helping to sweep everything onto the shovel and going outside to empty it into the bin.

Whilst I try and involve the kids where possible ironing is done when the boys are having their nap, and when nap time is over it is time to put the ironing board away and pull out more toys from the cupboard.

Preparing for Birth iPhone App

I remember with going into labour with my first, bouncing on the birthing ball trying to time my contractions using the stopwatch on my mobile to give me some idea how far apart they were.

Aptaclub are launching a Preparing for Birth iPhone app which is aimed to support parents to be for baby's arrival throughout that final trimester. One of the many features of the application is the contraction timer, alongside other tips and practical advice on preparing for labour.

The application also has checklists such as what to pack in your hospital bag which can be edited and shared and a personalised birth announcer feature to share the news of the new arrival.

The application is free to download from the iTunes App store
